Tonight I finally got back to my fish tote and finished the first coat. Halfway through I remembered that I never outline the fish totes because there's so much going on and it ruins the flow. That probably holds true in this case also.

Pumpkin Painting
Every year, my family paints pumpkins. Tonight was the night. Here's mine. In case you can't tell, it's supposed to be a rose, Tote Trove style. Maybe I should've stuck with the jack o' lantern grin.
Make and Tell Challenge: Day 38
Today I used yesterday's magazine beads to make my ribbon necklaces. I started this project during my lunch break and finished at my parents' house during our weekly dinner (I was literally stringing beads during dessert). Here's how I did it:
I took three pieces of very narrow black satin ribbon and knotted the tops together. Then I braided them for an inch or so and closed with another knot. Next I left an inch or so of bare ribbon space and made another knot (actually, it was six knots all jumbled together) to anchor a grouping of wooden and magazine beads, and another knot to close it. I completed the three strands the same way, then closed with another braid. I'm thrilled with the result. They're a little bit arts n' crafts and a little bit Caribbean vacation. I made two so I could keep one and post one on Etsy.

Make and Tell Challenge: Day 37
Tonight I made my magazine beads. I cut magazine covers into triangular strips, then rolled each strip, thick side first, around a pen, until it formed a barrel-shaped bead. Next I coated the bead with Elmer's glue (so fun when you peel it, dried, off your hands). I made about 80 beads, or two paper plates full. They are just as colorful and textured as I'd hoped and will be great for my ribbon necklaces.

Modeling My Make
I wore the necklace I made for yesterday's Challenge to work today. I got some compliments, so I think I'll make a few similar ones to sell. At some point. After I buy more faux coins and glitzy pendants. By the way, what's with the word-wrapping feature on Blogspot? I'm not tech savvy, so I'm hoping there's a simple way to prevent my words from being split in odd places. If anyone has a solution, please help!
