Daydream Weaver, Cabin Fever: Wording My Way Back to Two

When I first saw Christina Lauren's Love & Other Words pop up on Amazon, I thought of the movie Love & Other Drugs, which I'd very much liked.  Also, this unknown-to-me-book was less than ten dollars.  So, you know, add to cart.

And what a good get it was.

Sometimes you have to kiss a few frogs to find your soulmate.  Other times, you meet him at thirteen.  Such is the case for Macy Sorensen.  But that doesn't mean her love story runs smoothly.  Far from it, in fact, from the very first moment she sets eyes on Elliot Petropoulos.

The authors (for Christina Lauren isn't one person, but a dynamic duo writing team) toggle between Macy and Elliot's teens and twenties.  Telling the story this way amplifies the angst and awkwardness of their early years, especially when slammed up against their grown-up present.

It all starts when Macy and her dad buy the cabin next to the Petropoulos' as a way to start over after Macy's mom's death.  Tucked away in the wilds of northern California, it's an ideal refuge, and the big, boisterous Petropoulos clan welcomes them with open arms.  Even skinny, nerdy Elliot, the only person Macy has ever met who loves books as much as she does.  The two spend every spare moment in the converted closet that is Macy's library, reading, talking about their favorite books, and playing a game best called what's your favorite word?  Elliot is comfortable and never treats Macy like "the girl with the dead mother."  Yet at the same time, he challenges her, his curiosity making him bold and giving her the courage to be bold too.  It's years before their friendship ripens into a surprisingly steamy romance, but the wait makes it even sweeter.  So when their paths cross a decade later, the question is, how do they get back to the book bubble they shared before the real world tore them apart?

I've read three other Christina Lauren books, and Love & Other Words is my favorite.  The split timeline allows for suspense and surprises, adding layers to an already poignant tale.

Because when it comes to love, sometimes words aren't enough.  But sometimes they mean everything.

Oh, it does sound like it has the capability of being a modern romantic classic. Yes, this team always has a way of bringing you in with such interesting characters. Such a wonderful review! >>>>>>>>>>> Thanks for your comments. It has been interesting wondering where some of my couple stories are going. And yet, sometimes I just want to know what makes their minds tick, as well. Of course, most of these stories are somewhat a little daydream I suppose. I have to admit Anne Tyler was great a making some page turners. Although, I haven't seen that in her work in recent years. Oh, August is a long month, but somehow I am happy about that. Thanks for reading & your comments and of course, for your inspiration too! All the best to your creativity. Oh, lets hope all is well at work. The summer reading program is over. However, this doesn't mean handing out prizes is.

What a great way to start your August book reviews! I haven't come across this one as of yet. It looks like a kind of read that can keep you smiling. >>>>>>>>Oh, thanks for liking my Ruby story. I know it was short, but I had wanted to write about this 'picture' I had seen on SHEIN. Yet, I wanted it to be hopeful too. Since I have been having nightmares of the world on fire due to the heatwave. I do my best to stay balanced. Oh, and I have always liked having penpals. Although, I never got to be friends with anyone in Japan. I did make one friend from England and we don't keep in touch like we used to.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I hope you are having a great August!

Love your review! As always, you put a great spin on the reality of it. And I am glad that you do. I come across reviews that it's funny just why they read them, sometimes. Well, sometimes, not so funny too. I'm also glad you don't review books all the time, too. But you are one of my favorite book reviewers>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Oh, and I'm glad You Got that last post I wrote since I have a feeling no one will bring up 'what's going on'..but maybe they know too. Thanks for reading. Thank for your inspiration and of course, I love your creativity too! All the best to your August outfits!πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—

What a great way to start off your bookreviews this month. Always great to see this author's work! Such an interesting title. I like the fact how they communicate with each other. Recently, I have been watching a Chinese drama where these two don't have clue what the other looks like, but they'd met online and are always texting each other, but unaware they have met they can't stand each other. I dunno if I can finish that drama...πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’— Thanks so much for reading. It is a challenge to make a set for these stories. And also a challenge of not making things too crazy. Recently, another drama a started which in the Chinese Fantasy category which takes place in the realms of Heaven (very confusing, cause there are kings, dieties and fairies) Anyway, someone who is a character actor who was the wildest character I have ever seen in anything from this 2008 Wuxia story was THE GENERAL in this drama. Honestly, he is ageless or the fact he has always looked OLD. I guess I am writing you this to let you know my influences in writing Cherry Blossoms.

Oh, such a great start to your August reads! It does look like a fun one. Interesting title too! Oh, those word games! They do make a great writing team. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Thanks so much for your comments. Oh, the dynamics of Stevie... although, he is inspired by someone I once knew. Usually, pretty happy-go-lucky..but then again, Stevie is Stevie.

Such a great way to start August! Yes, it does look like a delightful read! Now if I only had the time. Another to put on my listπŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’— Thanks so much for your comments. Yes, I have to admit, some of the places I see on Pinterest I so wish I lived there. Yet, I feel certain a real home has to have it's clutter. I'm just not very good at making it pretty. I had a friend who lived in a tiny house and yes, she had a way of putting stuff away to make it look so attractive. I on the other hand am a hodgepodge of various moods.

Awww, this book sounds really good!! I adore the idea of the two characters being friends at first when they're young (and two book worms, no less!) and it evolving into romance over the span of time. So cute! And what a bonus that you got it for less than ten dollars, to boot. :) What a great find!

It sounds like a good story . Meeting when young is a blessing to not have to experience so many frogs. Thanks for the review and the recommendation.

Sounds like a fun read, but...death... Not sure if I'll add it to the TBR list.
