Ptomaine Gain: Hawaii, Here We Come

Imagine that you land an all-expense-paid luxury vacation in Maui.  Each day is filled with five-star meals, postcard-perfect sunsets, and lazy afternoons by the pool.  Now imagine that you're only there because your twin sister and her husband got food poisoning from the seafood buffet at their wedding.  And that your travel buddy is the groom's brother -- also known as the dude you hate most.

Now you've got the hang of Christina Lauren's The Unhoneymooners.  Olive Torres and Ethan Thomas are determined to make the most of their island idyll without killing each other.  Yet other challenges await, including 1) run-ins with randos from home, 2) discovering their siblings' secret, and 3) realizing that they -- gasp -- like each other.

Entertaining, funny, and surprisingly sweet, The Unhoneymooners is buoyed by banter yet deepened by dialogue that delves much more than sunburn deep.  Will Olive and Ethan's cheeseburger in paradise morph into a meatloaf in Minnesota?  Or will life outside their bubble send them back to the (unsexy kind of) wrestling ring?  I'm not at liberty to say.  But one thing's for sure.  The Unhoneymooners reinforces something I've always known.

No matter what, avoid the buffet.

What a start! with the wedding season upon us. It does look to be a clever premise. It is always interesting to discover stories about the 'honeymoon'. This one does look like a fun romp.

Thanks so much for your comment. Oh, speaking of someone who should get married, Slater and Misty.... and Jay..can he even keep up with Lindy? But I think Slater and Misty are in a good place.

It has been a wet and windy week here. Maybe warmer tomorrow..but more wind. Still, I feel everyone is being a bit peculiar on the road these days. I am not sure what's going on.

Oh, this is the author that is actually Christina and Lauren. They are so popular in women's fiction. Yes, it's a sign of spring when you back to one of their novels. This looks really good! Some fun in the sun and more! Yes, you must be careful around those buffets, too. I kind of miss them..sometimes.

Thanks so much for reading and commenting. Yes, finally Tristan makes an appearance. And of course, in his head, he's perfect yet has ruled the roost at home. Of course, it is an out-of-the-ordinary experience. And I guess because I shop generally at grocery stores this day, I just had to have it start there. It is funny, to see different people's responses. Some, I figured as much would say that about throwing a potato. hahahaha....

Oh, these two do write a modern romance full of fun and more! Such a great review. I love the title! Now I'm going to have to look for their books..=)

Thanks for your comments. I do like that indie singer and some of his videos are better than others..I can't remember which video that picture is from. Usually, his hair is in his eyes. Oh, to be young and extremely skinny.

Hope you are having a good week. We are starting the Adult Summer reading program, something about oceans..only the T-shirts we could order looked rather phallic so the maker space girls created their own. "Oceans of possibilities"

Great review!! Love the tropical Hawaiian cover. I love story lines where two people initially don't think they'll ever like each other, then things change and they begin to feel differently! And, awesome banter throughout with good dialogue is an epic bonus. Sounds like a fun read!

Who is able to eat at their own wedding? Not me, that’s for sure. At any rate, this sounds like a cute book, reminiscent of something by Sophie Kinsella, and one I think I would enjoy reading.

Oh, it's great to look back at a time when you did not have to worry about COVID tests before and after. My boss was afraid she couldn't make her trip to Trinidad even if she did test negative the airline was saying she didn't take it at the right time while the nation there accepted it. Thankfully, she got to go on this trip she has been planning for 2 years. The things you have to worry about now in a romance. Still on the chilly side here so reading a warm place romance is definitely a cozy time here.

Sounds like another book to add to the list.
