After an unusually snowy winter, spring is finally here! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and the air smells like hope and grass clippings. And also . . . it's still kind of chilly. At least it is here in New Jersey, where spring doesn't so much arrive as make a guest appearance and clear out for the diva that is summer. But I'm not complaining. Because it gives me an excuse to flaunt my faux furs (summer's not the only diva), a luxury I'll enjoy until that menacing March lion retreats for good.
Fur or no fur, I am springing forward with one fresh new something: makeup! I know I've mentioned this before, but back in high school, I collected cosmetics. I had Caboodles full of lipsticks and eyeshadows in every color. But like so many women, as I grew older and wiser, I narrowed my stash down to what worked -- Revlon Cherries in the Snow lipstick and Cover Girl Champagne eyeshadow. And save for the occasional rogue impulse purchase, I never looked back. The only way I'd ever wear gold lipstick again was if it was Halloween and I was going as C-3PO. But then not too long ago, I crossed paths with some dangerously dark blue Revlon eyeshadow, followed by prettily packaged Sephora lipsticks and bright L'Oreal eyeshadow quads (buy two get one free at Walgreens!) that I just couldn't resist. Entranced by their sleek newness and alluring shades, I uttered a silent apology to my tried-and-trues and thought, why not?
Here I am trying out my new red lipstick and turquoise eyeshadow:
The eyeshadow is more intense than I expected, like the taste of birthday cake ice cream. And I am committing the twin cardinal cosmetics sins of 1) matching my eyeshadow to my outfit and 2) rocking a bold lip and eye instead of just one or the other. But I don't care; I love it! (Cue the Icona Pop, people.) It's fun to have an alternative to my go-to palette. It makes me feel like the possibilities are endless. Like I have a technicolor time machine and am sixteen again, browsing the beauty aisle at Thrift Drug. That was a time when a new pot of lip gloss -- like lots of '90s girls, I was into the fruit flavors from Naturistics --could change your life. Or at least make you think it could.
But then, I guess that's the magic of makeup. And of youth and rejuvenation.
So, in other words, spring.

Such a beautiful spring look! Adoring those stripes and floral too. Oh, I can't even remember those thrifty cosmetic I fell in love with as a teen now, but back then for a few bucks and you were set for the season. Especially, that pot of gold lip gloss. These days, it all cost a fortune at CVS. Love the lippy. Cool eyeshadows too. Wonderful look indeed.
At the moment, the wind is practically howling here. A mix of snow and rain. We do need it, but it was crazy trying to drive to my dental, which got bumped up to noon. So, I get out of there, thinking..smooth sailing and dang if a car didn't have to pull out in front of me and stop. After some steady turn to get in the left lane, I finally make it to the parking lot to my favorite place to shop and two cars were chasing each other in the parking lot during all the rain and snow. Crazy times.
Thanks for the comment too. Oh, it is kind of funny when I had found that old photo and how much I thought it looked like "Slater" I just went with it. Jay may not have a clue about anything. Although, he is good at accidentally stirring up trouble.
Oh, L'Oreal! I love their nail polishes too. Such a great SPRING post. So many beautiful colors and those bobbles! Amazing. So love the outfits. That floral is so cool. Such a great spring selection. Of course, spring usually brings sneezing for me...and a raspy voice. I do remember those drugstore treasures. I still go there for less and less makeup, unfortunately. So great that you found that beautiful lipstick, too.
Thanks so much for your comments! Let's hope I get Megan married off soon 💕 but of course, other things have to happen too.
So great to see your vibrant Wednesday post. So much to offer. Oh, I haven't worn make-up in a very long time. Although we don't have to wear our masks all the time, we have to out in the stacks and around people, we might meet. Lovely colors, stripes and floral. Amazing bracelet! & more! Here's to a romantic and beautiful spring!
So many wonderful treasures! Such great eyeshadow! So glad you are so inspiring. Wow! the magic of lippy! Recently, I got a fuchsia color from Almay. Possibly a little rich for my wardrobe, but it felt nice to wear lipstick again!
Thank you so much for reading and commenting. I hope this story won't be too wild, but as of late I have had a few wild tales in everything I write...I'm afraid. Thanks again for being here 💕❤️💕
Dear friend! I love your all very colorful and cute outfits and their Accessories. Especially bag Tj max (its color) looks perfect. Thanks for the review.
"The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and the air smells like hope and grass clippings" - brilliantly put!!! Your fuzzy jacket is adorable, and the Red Planet Janet necklace is super unique and cool. The striped ensemble at the foot of the staircase is amazing and so is your barrette! That purple purse is stunning. The gear necklace is also unique and cool; who would've guessed a gear would make for such a neat centerpiece! Love the layered florals and the yellow and red mat is the perfect touch. Your new lipsticks are beautiful (as is the packaging! I literally laughed out loud when you mentioned going as C-3PO!) I so know what you mean about eventually finding your go-to makeup. I too spent loads of money on makeup, and only in recent years have established a go-to (with the occasional impulse buy!) Your new eyeshadows are stunning and I love the makeup look you created. :)
The purple bag from TJ Maxx with the zipper ( one of my favorite stores) caught my eye immediately. What a fabulous bag. I also like your "get in gear" necklace- its such a conversation piece. Turquoise eyeshadow is perfect for me. I love the bright colors and bright blues such as turquoise look really good with my blue eyes. have a great week.
