POV Grays and UV Rays: Screening the Sun on the Spectrum

Sunglasses: Amazon

They say that what you see is what you get.  And also that how you see things is colored by what you see them through.  Both are true of my heart-shaped sunglasses.  And also of the Amazon Prime dramedy As We See It.

As We See It is about three twentysomethings on different places on the autism spectrum.  They share an LA apartment and a caretaker (Sosie Bacon).  Sometimes funny and sometimes sad, As We See It follows Jack (Rick Glassman), Violet (Sue Ann Pien), and Harrison (Albert Rutecki) as they muddle through work and relationships.  They have to go through everything that everyone else does but without the protection of the same lens.  Dealing with a sick dad and iffy job, Jack spews that everyone's a liar.  Violet has trouble accepting that the romantic overtures of a male coworker don't necessarily mean love.  And Harrison doesn't understand why he can't be friends with the tween who lives in a nearby apartment.  With them, what you see is what you get.  So they look at other people that way too, taking them at face value without recognizing the layers of subtext, manipulation, and doublespeak that grease the gears of daily life.  And that makes life harder for them.

I was already moved by this series.  Yet it wasn't until I saw the actors on Tamron Hall that I learned they're on the spectrum in real life.  Knowing that made me happy that they get to do this show and tell a version of their stories.  Because As We See It is a reminder of the importance of kindness -- and of seeing someone else's point of view.

And sometimes there's no better way to do that than through a pair of rainbow sunglasses.

I do like the premise. It does make me think just a wee bit of an Asian drama I've seen in Korean and Chinese. But this one definitely has that urban feel to it. Also, as of late I have been thinking of the whole apartment game in my storyblog. Although, I usually kept up with the characters who move on from the apartment. But still, the apartment alone is its own space too that can create its own problems. (which I know has nothing to do with your review..and I like how you sidetracked me into thinking this is what you got on Prime Day). I will have to look into this one. Also the title makes me think of a Harry Styles song.

I haven't watched this one. It's good to know of it. I really love those shades. Such fun colors. A part of me feels this month is flying by. Yet, I still managed to get my mammogram yesterday. Even if I kept getting letters in the mail to tell me I was late. Problem: Getting through on the phone. Ugh..and when I finally did. "Oh yeah, we can do that in the morning."

Thanks for the review. I will definitely look into this one. And thanks for your comments too.

Just what I need. This looks perfect for summer. Sounds like some very interesting characters. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thank you so much for your comments. Maybe I am secretly telling myself..I need to cook more. Oddly, the "muffin story" was told to me by a co-worker over lunch one day. She is super smart and knows a lot of languages. But it's great to see she's also as dingy as I am, too.

Oh, such a great title for this. Loved the review! Sounds like a great show.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I finally found the faceclaim CARA..accidentally of course, so naturally, I have to bring her back into the story..no less. I am beginning to think most of the characters in this story might be lost in life.

I have always been a fan of your magnificent sunglasses in the array of beautiful colors!! They're amazing and pair so well with the outfits you wear them with. And, this show sounds totally fascinating; I think I have heard of this show before and how, as you mentioned, the actors are really on the spectrum. Which is refreshing, knowing that what you see in the show is the real deal! You're so right: "Because As We See It is a reminder of the importance of kindness--and of seeing someone else's point of view." :)

Oh, it's good to hear from you! I hope your week is going good. Just as I was giving a co-worker a green crop top I found at Target for a dollar that I am sure can fit a middle schooler (Oh, don't get me started on the difference between baby tees and now bra tops) I found out once again, my boss just switched another DVD out that was WRONG. At least the Head of Circ gave me the heads up about it to let me know..It's not you..but I will have to fix that too.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>OK the Jay story..these are just so hard to tell, but sometimes times, I like all the possibilities. Yes, Lindy has a personality disorder. But I think now, he feels it's all his fault that she's just shut down now. Although, more than once he's done some peculiar things. And I know hitting her out cold was bad. Let's see he's stole his best friend's girl Ivy (and he was kind of a common law brother-in-law at the time since he was with his best friend's sister) And I'm not going to say the worst thing he did to her. Still though, I keep writing about Jay and Lindy too. But not exactly little house on the praire stuff.>>>>>>>>>>>>>on to the Tristan story. Yes, as I put two guys and a girl together..then I started to wonder..that's not exactly 3's company. Although, Cat has been a no show for the most part.>>>>>>>>>>>>Yes, there is a CARA but not in the Cait & Meg story, but the step-sister in Better Left Unsaid. I found out Pinterest thy just refer to her to some Norweigen show SKAM. Maybe it's better off not watching that show.

Oh, I'm glad you got your mammogram taken care of too. I hate when they want you to do all the footwork. I am so glad everything is OK. I finally tried Cinnemon Apple Spice iced tea! Yeah! Other good news a young man I've known for quite a while told me Monday night at the library, who was with the girl he's been with for the last few years "We don't know where to go on our honeymoon!" I'm excited for them.

La vida depende del color del cristal con que la miras, eso dice el dicho. Y tal vez la forma de las gafas también influya, mirar desde un corazón tal vez nos haga más empáticos. La serie que nombras no la conocía, parece interesante.
Un saludo

Translation from Jose Lezcano: Life depends on the color of the glass with which you look at it, so the saying goes. And perhaps the shape of the glasses also has an influence, looking from a heart may make us more empathic. The series that he names did not know, it seems interesting. All the best.
